Increasing Eel Passage

This project has seen the practical installation of eel passes at Clappers gauging weir and Redbridge weir, both on the Bevern stream, a tributary of the middle Ouse. Bristle mats have been installed at each site to aid the movement of this weak-swimming species over the structure. This project has opened up 6.3km of river habitat for eel passage, to help maintain and increase their populations.

The installation at Clappers weir includes a trap, which will be monitored by volunteers from the Ouse and Adur Rivers Trust to measure the success of the investment.
