Barcombe Mills eel pass

The river Ouse is divided into a series of channels, in which there were three significant obstructions fo fish migration. One of these was a series of six stepped concrete weirs, known as the New Weir Channel, inflowing to the Barcombe Mills Pool – a largely concreted artificial channel carrying a significant proportion of the flow of the Ouse.

Several plastic and bristle passes have now been installed within the weirs to allow a constant flow of water and facilitate the movement of both elvers and larger eels through the area.
